How to Watch Your Favorite BBC Show while Abroad

I am absolutely in love Downton Abbey lately, and have found the most amazing tool ever to watch it. So here’s a quick tip if:

• You are outside the UK.
• You want to watch the latest episode of EastEnders or whatever BBC/ITV show online.

Install Expat Shield. It will assign a UK-based IP address to your computer and allow you to watch shows on BBC and ITV iPlayer as though you were in the UK. Best of all, it’s free and easy to use! Besides the fact that ads pop out from time to time, it runs almost as smooth as the VPN connection I used to have before.

I haven’t tried this, but I think you could also use it to access Facebook, Youtube, Blogger and other blocked websites while in China.

Update Oct 9: I’ve decided to abandon this method! It streams sooo slow recently. Instead, I just found a site that let me download the stuff directly. :p (Disclaimer: This is totally for educational purpose. Don’t sue me!)

Update Oct 10: Can’t wait for the download sites to upload my Downton Abbey. I realize Expat Shield loads faster when it’s in the middle of the night in the UK, ie daytime in HK! Great! Perfect actually.
