Tiramisu Disaster (so far)

14 Oct

I love the food in HK. I really do. But so far, I seem to be having bad luck with my all-time favorite dessert, Tiramisu, in HK.

I had one last week in a bloody expensive Italian restaurant in TST, and it was the most bizarre tiramisu experience I’ve ever had. When I ordered this, the waiter said, “it is homemade.” Of course, I didn’t have a problem with it. But when it arrived, I saw what he meant! He had the 3 extra long ladyfinger in one plate, coffee in a bowl, and the cheesy stuff in another bowl. WHAT?!?

Today, I bought a piece of tiramisu from Maxim.  It looked so pretty! And how happy I was to find it only HKD10 a piece! But I was so disappointed. It’s basically just a chocolate/vanilla layered sponge cake, sprinkled with cocoa powder.

So the search for a (preferably price-optimal) tiramisu goes on! :)

Rita Fan: Before and After

9 Oct

I don’t usually care about HK politics, but I do follow the news. The HK Chief Executive Election is coming up this year, and there are mainly 4 candidates, including a 66-year-old Rita Fan. It might be the doing of her marketing team, because recently a photo of a younger Rita has been circulating like crazy online. She was wearing a Qipao with a graduation robe on top. And bloody hell! Was she a real beauty!

Spotted: Waitrose @ local HK supermarket

8 Oct

Last year, my dorm at London conveniently had a Tesco and an M&S within 5 minutes, so I never really bothered with Waitrose. Personally I don’t see what’s so great about a generic Waitrose fruit juice. But I remember my dormmate would just cringe at the prospects of getting something at Tesco and would take the tube to visit Waitrose instead.  So if my friend decide to come to HK, she will feel at home enough. :)

Speaking of all these makes me really miss those divine smoked salmon and cheese sandwich from M&S. No one seem to make it better than M&S. They are divine, simply divine. Must find out if they sell it at the M&S in HK.

Clover Cake and Coffee House @ North Point

5 Oct

Food is still divine in HK. I wonder if I ever will be tired of it. There are so many choices. *smug*

Recently went to a cozy cake shop at North Point.

The shop itself is really cozy, and the cakes are cute. It kind of reminds me of those cute cake shops that just pops out in the middle of nowhere in suburban Japan, where all the customers are female. (Yes, most of the customers are female. ;)

Mont Blanc with coffee (around HKD45). The chestnut flavor really does come out, and the texture combination with its base is just perfect.
